Camping on the Beach in Michigan

Mears State Park Campground

Pentwater, Michigan

We arrived in Ludington, Michigan, on the SS Badger car ferry around 7:00pm, so it was really nice to only drive 20 minutes to the Mears State Park Campground.

Literally on the beach, each site is surrounded by sand! The actual campground is nestled right behind the sand dunes, and the sound of crashing waves is intoxicating. I’ve heard this place can get pretty cramped, and it can often be difficult to land a reservation here. Most of the sites are set up for smaller rigs, but we managed to score one of their few pull-throughs big enough for our fifth wheel. Our site here only had 30-amp power, so we were sure to have full freshwater tanks and empty black and grey tanks when we arrived.

I love the Michigan beaches, and the beach here is as stunning as ever. One section of the beach is open for dogs, too! There is also a little walking path out onto the pier or into town. We enjoyed a stroll along the canal and into downtown to check out the Main Street marina and get some local ice cream - delish!

This is such a wonderful setup to enjoy your time in Michigan! 100% recommend!
