On our westward dash back to Montana from Pennsylvania, we were sure to make a stop in Rapid City, South Dakota, so we could take the afternoon to visit Mount Rushmore. We booked one night at the Black Hills KOA in Rapid City, which was great - highly recommended and would stay again.
It was an easy 30 minute drive up to Mount Rushmore, with lots of beautiful hills and fun tourists traps to see on the way up (Reptile World, Wax Museum, Petting Zoos, etc.) Given our limited time there, we didn't get to do much exploring, but we'd love to return again in the future. This area is gorgeous!
We were so glad that we made this stop to visit Mount Rushmore and see it for ourselves. It was quite impressive, and much higher up than we imagined. We enjoyed learning all about the construction in the visitor's center, and the kids completed the junior ranger program for another badge.
