Sugarloaf Key KOA

We made it back to the keys, and we couldn't be more excited!

This was our first time at Sugarloaf Key KOA, and we were pretty impressed. It is newly remodeled, having sustained considerable damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017, which nearly wiped it off the map.

Check out our video from Sugarloaf Key KOA HERE.

The landscaping here is beautiful. It gives the whole campground such a tropical feel. It's not an overwhelmingly large campground either, which is really nice. We were in a standard full hook up back-in site, and it had plenty of room for our 43 foot rig. There are also lots of options for upgraded sites too.

Pool + Bar & Grille

The pool area is fantastic - right in the middle of the campground and surrounded by lush palm trees and vegetation. It's like a secret oasis getaway. There is also a bar and restaurant in the pool area - so pull up a chair, order a drink or some food and enjoy the occasional live music, entertainment or bingo. Tuesday nights are Tacos, Tequila and Trivia nights.

Beach + Swimming Area

There is a stretch of water frontage with sand that leads to the swimming area with inflatables out in the water. The kids swam out there one day, but we mainly swam in the pool.

Marina + Boat Slips

There is also a dock with boat slips, and a marina store that sells live bait and fishing supplies.

Our favorite thing to do here was kayak and fish! We bought inexpensive inflatable kayaks and used them to paddle all through the mangroves and across the channel. We had the best time fishing, and we reeled in a huge variety of fish from barracuda to mangrove snapper. We also spotted manatees, sharks and sting rays out in the water.

KOA Activities

The staff here at the KOA were incredibly friendly, and we loved chatting with them. They hosted several organized activities for both adults and children. The kids loved participating in their sand dollar craft and painted some beautiful ornaments for our tree.

Key West

The location here is also great - only 20 minutes to Key West and the endless entertainment it has to offer!
